Are Hormone Imbalances Normal?

A common misconception about hormones is that imbalances are normal. While it’s definitely common, it is in no way normal. Many people don’t pay attention to the warning signs caused by hormonal imbalances because there is a lack of education in the healthcare system. Hormones play a huge role in our overall health because they are regulators of various bodily functions. They impact cardio health, bone health, breast health, muscles, memory, and so much more. Pregnenolone is the mother hormone, it’s the hormone for which additional hormones are made. It’s how we get progesterone, cortisol, estrogen, testosterone, androstenedione, and DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone).

Think of hormones like a spiderweb. They all work together in the body. If you touch one part of a spiderweb, the whole web vibrates. For example, if you have inadequate levels of testosterone it can lead to complications like erectile dysfunction, hair loss, fatigue, and muscle mass depletion. An imbalance can also impact TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) by influencing the pituitary gland.

When patients first come in, they don’t see just how deep this goes. They mostly think about their estrogen or testosterone, but by the time they leave the clinic their eyes are open from how much more there is to know. I do everything in my power to illustrate and explain in a way that is digestible, so they can see the significance hormones play.

When patients go to conventional doctors for the same issue, 9 times out of 10 they don’t consider that it’s a hormone issue. Most doctors only check the TSH, which leaves patients feeling frustrated because the testing isn’t in-depth. But at The Institute of Natural Health, we go all in, testing the T3, T4, and thyroid antibodies. This is through our annual thyroid panel we run, along with a different in depth hormone panel. Our testing shows a full picture so that we’re able to point our patients in the right direction. The more information we get, the better we’re able to navigate the healing process for them.

When it comes to a health journey, people only look at diet and exercise. Not many know that having adequate levels of hormones can actually remediate a lot of health issues. At The Institute of Natural Health, we don’t overlook any factors, which is why we have so many satisfied patients. Hormones are everything when it comes to your body being a well-oiled machine.
